Local Business Spotlight: THIRSTY DICE, 1642 Fairmount Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130

Behind the Business:

Matt Hendricks and his wife were just looking for a fun evening out when they happened to walk into a board game cafe in Toronto, Canada. Matt, who is a self described board game enthusiast, was eager to sit down and play a couple of games over coffee. However, his wife needed a little persuading. What they found was that one game turned into many and the coffee turned into lunch and cocktails. It was a pleasant surprise to find that they were enjoying their time together and not once checking their phones. The disconnect from modern technology was refreshing while they relaxed, laughed and of course played some awesome games.

Why Fairmount:

After their board game tournament in Toronto, a spark was ignited and the idea to open Thirsty Dice was born. The challenge now was finding the perfect location. Luckily, they found a great spot that checked all of the boxes in the AF Bornot Dye Works Building on 17th and Fairmount. Matt said he wanted to be in an established neighborhood with civically engaged residents and a sense of community. He wanted to be around people who are looking for a unique family-friendly experience. Fairmount provided that and so much more.

Adapting during Covid:

Thirsty Dice didn’t let the pandemic get them down. Just like many other restaurants and small businesses in Philadelphia, Thirsty Dice did what they could to accommodate the changes. They added more Grab-n-Go food and drink options, including milkshakes (Boozy for adults, regular for kids), upped their disinfection and sanitation procedures, and installed a higher standard of air filtration to keep guests safe.

Finding a place that can provide a good balance of activities for both adults and children is hard but Thirsty Dices does it. Nothing brings together people of all ages better than good food, good drinks (for the adults😁) and BOARD GAMES!
